Recipe card says "my old much-used recipe". Although the recipe doesn't explicitly state it, I'm sure the jars need to be sterilized. My mom used this weird green food coloring, too. But they were great!
Ingredients
Vinegar (salt water alum and garlic heat to boiling and fill jars seal): 1 Pint
Water: 2 1/2 Quart
Garlic
Salt: 3/4 Cup
Alum: 1/2 Cup
Fresh Dill
Cucumbers
Instructions
Sanitize your canning jars ahead of time.
Fill four 1/2 gallon jars with fair sized cucumbers and place bunches of dill on top.
Combine vinegar, salt, water, alum, and garlic. Heat to boiling and fill jars. Seal. Follow your canners instructions to ensure food safety.
Note on measures... back in the day, you put in what looked right. Experiment!
