Chewy chocolate cookies with frosted sugar
Ingredients
- Vegetable Shortening: 1/2 Cup
- Granulated Sugar: 1 2/3 Cup
- Vanilla Extract: 2 TSP
- Large Eggs: 2 Each
- Chocolate (Squares): 2 Each
- All-Purpose Flour: 2 Cup
- Baking Powder: 2 TSP
- Table Salt: 1 Pinch
- Milk: 1/3 Cup
- Black Walnuts (Chopped): 1/2 Cup
- Powdered Sugar (As Needed): 1/4 Cup
Instructions
- Cream together vegetable shortening and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add vanilla extract and beat in the eggs, one at a time.
- Melt the chocolate squares and stir into the mixture.
- In a separate bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and table salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk.
- Fold in the black walnuts.
- Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and roll in powdered sugar to coat.
- Place the coated balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the cookies are set but still soft in the center.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
